“Write like it matters, and it will.” -Libba Bray
I am using this website as a portfolio of my writing and other journalistic things I do as I embark on my journey to becoming a journalist.
I am a senior at Florida Gulf Coast University studying
Journalism. I have been on a mission to find where I fit in in the journalism world and I haven’t quite found it.
I usually chock this up to the forever changing technology. I can almost guarantee the specific job I was meant to do hasn’t been invented yet. Until I find it I’ll continue searching and trying new things.
Here’s what I’ve been up to:
Since I started at FGCU in Fall 2015 I have written a lot of different things in a lot of different styles. As every one of my professors would say practice makes perfect and that’s my goal.
Over the summer of 2016 I interned at a small weekly newspaper called the Gilchrist County Journal where I wrote weekly stories, pitched story ideas, attended bi-weekly school board meetings and worked with InDesign to layout pages.
I am currently interning at a digital news company called HelloSWFL run by E.W. Scripps. This new news company is focused on discovering new ways to use today’s technology to experiment with new methods of storytelling.
Through this opportunity I have learned so many new skills including, being on camera and editing video on Adobe Premiere and After Effects. I have also experimented with different technology including filming a story with a GoPro and a 360 Camera.
I was created to create.
